Third Quarter - Formatting Documents

In this quarter we will be learning how to format Word Documents properly. We are using a new version of Microsoft Word (2010) and must learn how to use it effectively and efficiently for all your assignments (from this class and others).

Type on your formatting documents notes the following:
1. What are margins? What are two ways of changing margins in Microsoft Word? What are the default margins in Word?
2. What are indents? What are first line indents? What are hanging indents? What are the first line indent and the hanging indent markers?
3. What are indents? Name four types of indent markers. What is a normal indent? Hanging indent? First line indent?
4. Mention two ways to indent a paragraph in Microsoft Word?
5. When do you move the left indent square?
6. How do you create a hanging indent? Mention two ways. How do you create first line indent?
7. What is pagination? How is pagination changed? Mention two ways to insert a page break. Can you delete a page break? How?
8. What is a Header? What is a Footer? How can you add a Header and Footer?
9. What are indents? Name four types of indent markers. What is a normal indent? Hanging indent? First line indent?
10. What is line spacing? What are three ways to change the line spacing in a document (e.g. to double-space your text)? How do you change the space before or after a paragraph (or title)?
11. What are tabs? What are tabs used for? What are the default tabs in Microsoft Word? What’s the first thing you should do when you need to work with tabs?
12. Which are the different types of tab stops? Mention the basic four tab stops.
13. How can you set tabs more precisely? Where do you go? How do you change the tabs for an entire document?
14. Which is the most used tab (most popular)? How do you remove tab stops from your ruler? How do you set a tab stop?
15. What are tab leaders? How do you create them?
16. What are footnotes used for? How do you create a footnote on a page of a Word document?
17. What are endnotes? How do you create an endnote?
18. How can you insert clip art in a document?
19. Which key do you press to select a vertical block (column) of text?
20. How do you insert a page number?
21. How do you insert a page-break?
22. How do you create bullets on a list of items?

You can find the answers to these questions in Chapter 3 (pages 75 to 96 of the Microsoft Office 2010 Textbook). Also check the Chapter Summary on page 101 and the Vocabulary section on page 102.

You already worked on the Training Exercise (Parts 1 - 6). You also created the Kennel Log Exercise (page 81). Mrs. Feld asked you to type the information on page 81, enter the title Kennel Log and insert the tab stops shown on that page (center tab stops on 1" and 1.75". Then a right tab stop on 3.25" instead of 3". A decimal tab stop on 4" to align the decimals (periods) of the numbers. We also changed the tab stop of the title "Weight (kg) to a center tab, since a decimal tab stop doesn't work for text (titles and other words).

On March 15, 2012 - we worked on Exercise No. 2, "WELCOME," (pages 105 and 106). On March 16, 2012 you will work on Exercise No. 3, "TELECOMMUTING," and Exercise No. 4, "Vitamins," (pages 106 and 107). For Exercise 4, please add the sentence shown on top ("Vitamins are important...") before you type the text with columns. Also, if you prefer, enter the tab stops first (it looks better this way and may be easier for you).

On the week of March 19th, you will work on Exercises 5, 6 and 7. Exercise No. 5: must be saved as a Web Page (an HTML document) - you can check page 99 to learn how to do this. You will also work on your Skill Builder Lessons. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Mrs. Feld.
