First Quarter

October 24, 2006

By now you should have completed all of the "Alphabetic Keyboarding" Lessons in your MicroType Program. All the Quick Review Lessons (except Numeric Keys), the Timed Writings 1 through 8 - for Periods 1 and 8. The PowerPoint Presentation "About Me", with printed Outlines and Hand-Outs. You should start concentrating more on speed, without disregarding ACCURACY! Goal: 45 wam, less than 3 errors, less than 3 backspaces.

October 13, 2006

If you work in the Windows Lab and are able to "Map to the K Drive", you can start doing the "Timed Writings" in your MicroType Keyboarding Program (Except for 9th Period - the MicroType Program in the Mac Lab doesn't have these timings). You are to complete all these timings (13 in total) - up to No. 5 in October and all completed by November 21st. I will review your progress and may ask you to repeat some of these timings. Goal: 45 words a minute and less than 3 errors, if you type more than 45 wam but make more than 3 errors, please concentrate in accuracy and try to slow down. Also, do not use the Backspace key more than 3 times; some students are using this key TOO MANY TIMES to correct errors; this is not acceptable!

October 12, 2006

Go to the "Quick Review" on your MicroType Program and complete the following: Easy Lines, Enter Key, Space Bar and Shift Keys. If you didn't do the "Alphabetic Keys" earlier, please do so too. After this, you can continue working on your Power Point Project and continue with your regular Keyboarding Lessons.

Individual Project:

We are presently working on the "About Me" Power Point presentation. This exercise is due: October 17, 2006. Follow the instructions carefully, adding backgrounds, animation and transitions to your slides. To grade this project I need print-outs of the "Outline" and the "Hand-Outs"; and you have to show me your presentation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Mrs. Feld.

To date, you should have completed the following:

1. Alphabetic Keyboarding: You should be -at least- in Lesson 15 by now. If not, please make the time to catch up and complete the lessons needed to reach this goal. Our goal at this point is to type accurately, making less than 6 mistakes and typing at least 35 words per minute, without looking at the keyboard.

2. Exercises completed:
* Create a Table - Learn to insert a table in Microsoft Word. Table with at least 5 colums and 5 rows. Title: "My Favorite Things". Enter your favorite things in each column (Favorite Foods, Favorite Movies, Favorite Restaurants, Favorite Actors/Actresses, Favorite Places, etc.) Your name should be on this paper (use the "Footer" to insert it).
* Two Columns in Microsoft Word - Exercise No. 1: Type the document "Patience". Learn to create two columns, centering your title (Go to Format > Column > Click on the one column preset) and inserting a line in the middle (Go to Format > Columns > Click "Line between").
* Two Columns in Microsoft Word - Exercise No. 2: Go to Google or other search engine and select an article or text of your choice. Copy the document and paste in Microsoft Word. Center your Title, create two columns and insert a line in the middle.
* Several Timings: three Skill Analysis (go to Edit > Skill Analysis), two timed writings (or two measurement writings from the Keyboarding Skill Builder - if your program doesnt' have the "timed writings")
* Quick Review: Alphabetic Keys

If you haven't completed one or more of these, please do so as soon as possible and give to Mrs. Feld.

3. Test: October 11, 2006 (covered Lessons 1 - 10, Alphabetic Keyboarding and Techniques)
