Test May 22, 2008

This quarter we've been working on "Formatting Documents" and "Business Letters". We practiced how to enter Tab Stops to create small column documents, how to insert Tab Leaders (like in a Menu), how to change the Indentation in a Word document using the Indent Markers; as well as how to change Margins, create a Header and a Footer, change the Line Spacing, insert a Footnote, insert a Page Break, create Bullets and Numbering, and Insert a Picture. You should be able to clearly understand how to use these formatting features in Microsoft Word.

We worked on and completed the "Training" document (Chapter 5 in the Microsoft Word 2003 Textbook) which taught us many of these formatting options and learned to use the "Formatting Task Pane." We also worked on some of the Textbook Exercises (Exercises Nos. 3, 5 and 9). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Mrs. Feld.

We also covered "Business Letters." You should understand what business letters are; what are personal business letters? What are regular business letters? What are the main parts in a business letter? How do you define these? What are the three main styles of business letters?

For Thursday's Test please review and study the following:

  • The previous post of April 19, 2008. Review all the questions and see if you can answer all of them. If not, find the answers in your notes and hand-outs or ask Mrs. Feld.
  • The following questions (add these to the ones on the 4/19/08 post):
    • What is a database? When can you use a database when working with letters?
    • What are personal business letters? What are regular business letters?
    • What are the main parts of a business letter?
    • What are the three main styles of business letters? Describe them.
    • What is superscript? What is subscript?
    • How do you insert a footnote in Microsoft Word?
    • How do you insert a picture in Microsoft Word?
    • How do you enter bullets or numbering on text in Microsoft Word? Mention two ways. When do you enter bullets or numbering?
  • Study April's Quiz on Formatting Documents and Tabs.
  • Study the hand-outs and your notes on "Tabs and Indents" and Chapter 5.
  • Study your notes on "Business Letters."
  • Add the following to your notes: Another text style, besides bold, italic, and underline, is Superscript; which reduces the size of the text and raises it to the top of the current line. Subscript is a text style that reduces the size of the text and lowers it to the bottom of the current line. Example:

In 5th Avenue the "th" is a superscript (to type "exponents" you use this style). In H2O the "2" is a subscript. To format the characters you first select the text and then go to Format > Font and select either Superscript or Subscript. You can also select other options to format your text.

If you had difficulties using Tab Stops, Indent Markers, Tab Leaders, or the Superscript and Subscript styles, please practice before the test.
