Mission Statement Project and Final Exam

This week of May 26th you'll be working the project: "My Personal Mission Statement", creating a PowerPoint Presentation.

A mission statement represents your belief system—the priorities, values and principles that measure your decisions. It provides overall direction and clarifies your purpose and meaning. When you clearly know what you want to be and to do in your life, you feel strong in your sense of mission. You’re no longer driven by everything that happens to you. Rather, you feel a deep and complete commitment to following your innermost values." ~Dawn Angier

So, what is your personal mission statement? What are your goals and dreams? Your success begins with identifying what you want and then planning how to get it; so defining a mission statement is your first step towards success. A Mission Statement provides the foundation for getting what you want out of life. With careful planning, and by focusing your energy on what's truly important, you vastly improve your odds of success.

For this project you may want to review your PowerPoint Presentation “About Me”, that you already created at the beginning of this school year. You are to create your “personal mission statement” for your life. Please read carefully the documents: "Mission Statement Project" and “Guidelines to Create Your Personal Mission Statement” (in Keyboarding (1) under "Mission Statement Project"). You should take this project seriously. It is your life and you should take time to think about your future and about what you really want to do and accomplish (your goals and dreams). Determine what is important to you. Besides, it will count as 10% of your 4th Quarter Grade.

A personal mission statement can be a very important addition in your resume and college application. Employers and college admission directors take notice and your chances of being hired or accepted are much greater.

This is an individual project. It should be completed by Monday, June 1st, 2008. You can help each other; but you will create your own PowerPoint Presentation about your “Personal Mission Statement.” Your presentation will have at least the following six slides:

  • First Slide: A Title Slide which should be a “Collage” creation (with pictures of things you like, enjoy, dream). This slide will include the title: “My Personal Mission Statement or “Mary’s Mission Statement” (replace Mary with your name).
  • Second Slide: Slide for “My Successes”.
  • Third Slide: “My Most Important Values” (underline the most important one for you).
  • Fourth Slide: “My Contributions”.
  • Fifth Slide: “My Goals and Dreams”.
  • Sixth Slide: “My Personal Mission Statement”.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2008 you can start your presentation, first creating all the above-mentioned slides. Then working on your Title Slide, where you can create a collage of meaningful things (like a "vision collage"), downloading pictures from the Internet or selecting pictures that you already have in your computer. Your title should be "(Your Name)'s Mission Statement". You can also decide which template (templates or backgrounds) you'll use. Save it as: Mission Statement or My Mission Statement.

FINAL EXAM:

For the Final Exam you should review the following:
  1. Excel - Review February's Test and a couple of exercises. If you want Mrs. Feld to give you an Excel Practice exercise, do not hesitate to ask. You can find this exercise in Keyboarding (1) in the Server under "Final Exam Practice". Review your notes.

  3. Formatting Documents & Tabs and Indents - Review May's Quiz and Test, and your notes.
