Second Quarter - Month of November

This month you will start working on your Keyboarding Skill Builder Lessons. Make sure that you follow the instructions in the MicroType program carefully. Work on your weaknesses, so you can improve your typing skills - use the right fingers, remember to maintain good posture so you don't strain your body, be consistent, and try your best not to use the Backspace key. Keep working on ACCURACY and start working on acquiring SPEED. Don't sacrifice accuracy for speed though. I don't want to see more than 6 errors and more than 6 backspaces on your timings. Your goal in a 2 minute timing must be at least 45 gwam with less than 6 errors and less than 6 backspaces. Those of you who type faster than that may want to slow down, in order to keep the number of errors down, as well as the number of times you use the Backspace key.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF! Try to do better and better each time. If you feel you must repeat some of the Alphabetic Keyboarding Lessons (Lessons 1 - 20) for reinforcement and to become a better typist, please do so!

On Friday we created the first table "My Favorite Things." If you didn't complete this assignment, please do so and save it in the Server, in your Class Folder (where you saved the PowerPoint "About Me"). The week of 11/09 - 11/13, you will continue with other table exercises (Microsoft Word). Please check the following site to learn how to work with tables: http://getit.rutgers.edu/tutorials/word_tables/media/word_tables.pdf. Read it carefully; especially if you don't understand how to do the exercises Mrs. Feld will give you on Monday (11/9) as assignments for the week and while she's at KAIROS. It is your responsibility to complete the assignments and save them in the Server, in your Keyboarding Class folder under your name > in the Public Folder (so Mrs. Feld can grade them). You may also continue with your Alphabetic Keyboarding Lessons (those students who didn't complete the 20 lessons yet) and with the Keyboarding Skill Builder Lessons (if you completed the 20 lessons).

HOW TO SAVE IN THE SERVER:

Keyboarding Periods 6 & 8 - go to File > Save As... > My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > SBA > Labserver > Keyboarding (6 or 8) > find the folder with your name > open the Public Folder and Save. (NOTE: DO NOT SAVE IN THE DROP BOX, ONLY SAVE IN THE PUBLIC FOLDER, NEXT TO YOUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION "ABOUT ME").

Keyboarding Period 9: in the Mac Lab you save in the server differently. Save your work on your Desktop or in your Documents Folder first. Then, go to "Go" on the Menu Bar > Connect to Server > find the Keyboarding 9m and double-click. Now you can drag your document in the Public Folder under your name, where you have your PowerPoint Presentation "About Me." If you saved your work on your desktop is easier to drag it into your name folder in Keyboarding 9m (inside the Public Folder); if you save it in your Documents, you must have two windows open. First, open your documents folder, then open the Keyboarding 9m icon on your desktop and then drag from one window to the next (under your name in the Public Folder).
